Cartoonists fight against COVID-19 with cartoon wall in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: A cartoon wall near B.Ed college here is pulling crowd with coronavirus awareness messages. Kerala Social Security Mission in association with Cartoon Academy took initiative for the unique awareness programme. 10 cartoonists joined hands to create informative cartoons as part of the fight against COVID-19.
Cartoon walls will be created in each district soon. The theme of the cartoon will be based on the specialties of each district. As Kozhikode is popular for the wide varieties of food, it became the major theme for COVID-19 special cartoons. A cartoon dedicated to writer Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer was captioned ‘Viswavikhyathamaya Mask’ resembling his novel titled ‘Viswavikhyathamaya Mookku’.
Like memes, film stars Mammootty and Mamukoya are also featured in the cartoons. 'Chanthu is one who washes hands with soap, the one who fights by wearing mask, one who keeps distance' - a popular dialogue of Mammootty was rephrased like this for creating awareness on COVID-19 prevention.
MLA A Pradeep Kumar inaugurated the cartoon wall. Cartoon Academy chairman K Unnikrishnan, Secretary Anoop Radhakrishnan, Suresh Davinchi, Rajeev Sooranad, Subhash Palloor, Shaji Seethathode, Dinesh Sali, Saneesh Divakaran, Noushad Vellalassery and Ratheesh Ravi were the cartoonists who created the cartoon wall.
