Bio-toilets installed at Meppadi relief camp by Mathrubhumi-Jayasurya association
Meppadi: Bio-toilets were arranged at Meppadi flood relief camp where 564 people are lodged. Considering the limited facilities in the camp, Mathrubhumi installed bio-toilets through ‘Kaithangu’ the flood relief initiative.
In the initial phase, 10 bio-toilets were availed at the Meppadi Govt. Higher Secondary School where the camp is arranged. They were brought from Ernakulam.
The money for the bio-toilets were funded by actor Jayasurya. Understanding hardships of people in northern region of the state, the actor informed Mathrubhumi about his willingness to be part of the relief activities.
Out of 564 inmates, 240 are women and 139 are children. Toilets in the school were insufficient to cater to the needs of these many people. Immediate relief to this issue was solved after Joint Managing Director M V Shreyams Kumar visited the camp and intervened in the issue.
