Koyilandy (Kozhikode): A migrant labourer arrived at the police station here seeking protection after he won a lottery prize worth Rs 80 lakh. Bihar native Muhammad Sayid won the first prize in Karunya lottery draw held on Saturday.
The 41-year-old arrived at the police station on Sunday early morning along with his friends Asadul and Manirul. Sayid took the lottery ticket from Kollam. He had taken 22 tickets and one bagged the first prize. He was a labourer at a cement shop in Kollam and was staying near the Nandi lighthouse. For the past 12 years he was residing in Kerala.
Sayid feared that when others come to know about his lottery win, they might try to harm him. Also Sunday was a bank holiday. So he took refuge in the police station.
The ticket has been kept in the police station. On Monday, further procedures will be initiated.
