Bid to go green; ‘Ambalappuzha Palpayasam’ to be distributed in paper containers
Ambalappuzha: The daily offering of milk pudding (Palpayasam) in Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple will be distributed in paper-made containers from next month. At present, the payasam is distributed in plastic containers of one litre and half a litre size.
The move by Travancore Devaswom Board is with the intention to make the temple premises eco-friendly. The board has decided to avoid use of plastic in the temples under the board. The plans to start use of paper containers in Ambalappuzha is part of this move.
The use of paper containers will start from next month. Earlier, the pudding used to be distributed in containers brought by the devotees. Later, plastic containers were introduced a few years ago.
The new container will have a biodegradable metallic cap that will decompose in soil. The tender procedures for making the paper containers has already started. Once it is completed, the plastic containers will be replaced with the new paper made ones.
