Asha worker comes to the aid of helpless woman and her new born
Thiruvananthapuram: Krishnakumari, an Asha worker from Venjarammoodu, became a role model by providing assistance to pregnant women and their babies who have nobody to help them. Krishnakumari has so far looked after two lives during these trying times.
Krishnakumari came across Ramya while she was visiting different households as part of her work during the lockdown. Thrissur native Ramya had married Thiruvananthapuram native Sreenath. A hotel employee, Sreenath is the only source of income for the family.
The couple moved here after Sreenath secured a job at a hotel in Venjaramoodu. However, he lost his job following the lockdown. They were struggling without enough food to eat and without medicines for Remya, who was eight months pregnant then. When Krishnakumari found the couple, she understood their plight.
The sad condition of Remya, who was living in a small house covered with sheets, remained with Krishnakumari. After returning home, she took her husband and visited Remya again with fruits and food items.
She informed panchayat member Bindu about Remya's plight the next day. She tried to get help for the family from different quarters. She visited Remya's house every day, even though there weren’t any transportation facilities. She also arranged vehicle for Remya to visit the hospital numerous times.
Krishnakumari was with Remya till the day she was admitted to SAT hospital on April 9. Remya gave birth to her daughter Adithi on April 12. When Remya returned home with her daughter, Krishnakumari with the help of Bindu arranged facilities including bed. They still help Remya and her daughter by ensuring medicine and food for them.
Adithi will need medical care for the diseases she is suffering now. Both Bindu and Krishnakumari are busy trying to find the means for the baby’s treatment.
