Thrissur: ‘Higuita’, the popular short story written by NS Madhavan, will be staged as a play to entertain the audience. The play will be screened at Nataka Dweep in Vallachira paddy field this Saturday and Sunday at 6 pm. Jose Chiramel Nataka Dweep, a theatre set up at Vallachira paddy field will turn venue for the play.
It was 24 years back, ‘Higuita’ was staged as a play by Sasidharan. Though the play was staged in over 10 venues across India and abroad, it is being staged for the first time in a village in Kerala.
A seven’s Football court with 70 ft length and 45 ft width will turn venue for the play.
PR Jijoy, actor and head of the theatre department in Pune Film Institute, will play the lead role of Geevarghese.
About Nataka Dweep
‘Nataka Dweep’ is the permanent theatre venue established by theatre activists in loving memory of noted theatre artiste Jose Chiramel. It is situated in an island-like area surrounded by paddy fields at Valalchira. A new theatre of 4000 square feet with 80 ft length and 50 ft width was constructed on 34 cent land.
500 people can occupy the theatre at a time. All facilities at the theatre will be completed within 5 years.
