Abhinand takes the road less travelled by, on his horse
Valayam: When boys of his age run behind superbikes, 19-year-old Abhinand had a different idea. This Valayam native lad has bought a horse from Tamil Nadu with his hard earned money.
Son of Babu and Leela this youth took up a job in a wood mill here after his Plus Two studies. The videos and pictures of horses seen on social media sowed an interest in Abhinand. He started reading more on it. Gradually he decided on buying one for himself.
He started searching for one and joined a WhatsApp group of horse lovers from which he came to know on the horses kept for sale.
There was a one-year-old foal for sale in Coimbatore and the cost was high at Rs 30,000 as its mother had won many races. However, Abhinand was determined to buy it. He took it to Kozhikode by a lorry and arrived here on Saturday.
This horse can run up to 30 km at a stretch. Since the foal is just one-year-old, training is yet to start. It can be taken for horse riding only after six months of training and attached with horseshoes. For this it had to be taken to Malappuram, Palakkad or Tamil Nadu. Until then Abhinand has decided to tame it at home.
“Keeping a horse at home is simple, just like keeping a cow. Wheat bran, horse gram, green grass and ground nuts are being fed to it. As the fuel price is skyrocketing each day, this is the better way to travel,” Abhinand says.
Many people are arriving at Abhinand’s house to see the horse.
