88 couples enter wedlock at mass wedding ceremony in Wayanad
Kalpetta: As a symbol of love and religious harmony, 88 couples entered wedlock on Thursday at the mass wedding ceremony organised at Wayanad Muslim Orphanage (WMO). It was the 15th confluence of love and togetherness of the Wayanad Muslim Orphanage on Thursday. The ceremony was held in the presence of thousands of people.
The couples tied the knot following their religious rituals at separate stages arranged in different parts of the orphanage. The orphanage authorities gifted five sovereigns of gold to the brides and one sovereign of gold to the grooms. The expenses of the wedding were fulfilled by kind souls within and outside the district.
Those who entered the wedlock this time include some flood victims as well. A total of 22,000 persons attended the function. The wedding ceremony was performed under the auspices of Panakkad Sayyid Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal who also inaugurated the mass wedding and public function.
The first civil service exam topper from tribal community Sreedhanya Suresh also attended the event among others. The couples who got married in the mass wedding conducted in previous years and their families also took part in the function. Several cultural events were staged after the marriage ceremony.
