80k tree saplings to be distributed in Pattambi on environment day
Koppam (Palakkad): In connection with the Haritha Kerala Mission, a total of 80,000 saplings will be planted in Pattambi taluk on the environment day on June 5. The tree saplings for the purpose is ready in nurseries of Social Forestry at Vadanamkurussy and Chalissery. The distribution of saplings will commence by the last week of May.
The tree saplings are maintained and distributed under the supervision of Social Forestry in Palakkad. 40,000 saplings are grown in the nurseries at Vadanamkurussy and Chalissery each. The saplings were prepared after sowing seeds and replanting the sprouts in separate covers.
Five-month-old saplings are kept in the nursery for distribution. Twenty varieties of trees including guava, red sandalwood, tamarind, Mahogany, golden shower, custard apple, Malabar Kino and paradise tree are nurtured in the nurseries.
The saplings will be distributed to the schools, local bodies, clubs and volunteer organisations for free. Individuals can purchase the saplings at low cost directly from the nurseries. Social Forestry will monitor the growth and maintenance of the saplings distributed.
