76-yr-old Sukumari gets title deed after 19 yrs of long struggle
Kalpetta: Finally, Sukumari, a 76-year-old woman succeeded in her mission to get the title deed of her land. She has been waiting for a long time to prove her land ownership.
The aged woman was seen in all smiles with her toothless grin when she received the title deed at the ‘Pattaya mela’ (title deed distribution programme) here on Tuesday.
She has been striving to get the title deed since 19 years.
Minister E Chandrasekharan handed over the title deed to Sukumari at the event. As the old woman was not able to walk, the minister approached her who was sitting in the front row and handed over the document.
Sukumari, a native of Kuppadi village, owns 94 cent land. Her daughter Lalitha and family are the successors to the property.
Sukumari who is residing in the property for more than 50 years was striving to get the title deed since 2001. She was worried about not holding the titled deed of the land where she was living with her husband from the age of 17.
Ignoring health issues related to age, Sukumari visited many offices seeking help to get the title deed. Three years ago, her husband Narayanan passed away.
“I got the title deed of my land. Now, I can die peacefully,” Sukumari told daughter.
Sukumari and family has been living in the house which is in poor condition. Though they are eligible to get the financial aid from government’s housing schemes, their applications were rejected over not possessing the title deed.
Sukumari is the most senior citizen who received the title deed at the ‘Pattaya Mela’.
