14-year-old turns hero; rescues two children from drowning
Mananthavadi: When 14-year-Jayakrishnan went for a stroll along with his brother and friends, he wasn’t prepared for what was about to come. Yet he didn’t shy away from his responsibility when he saw three young boys drown in the quarry lake at Eranakkolly near Pathirachal.
Jayakrishnan rescued two boys, Safwan and Ameen, who encountered death as they were drowning in the lake. The two boys were at the lake with 3 other friends, one of whom couldn’t be rescued. Jayakrishnan said that although he had warned them not to get into the water body, they did not pay heed. Later, as he was about to return home, he heard the cries of the children and rushed to the spot.
Couldn’t rescue Shamil
Although Jishnu (Jayakrishnan’s brother), Vaishnav and Abhin Babu (his friends) threw a piece of rope down the lake, in an effort to rescue Shamil, it turned out to be futile. Soon the locals gathered in the area but even their collective efforts couldn’t save the child.
Jayakrishnan’s selfless act gained him praise all over social media. But he says that he still trembles with fear whenever he thinks of the incident and that he is sad about not being able to save Shamil’s life.
Jayakrishnan is son of Babu and Sharada from Pathirachal. He is a 9th standard student at St. Joseph High School.
