‘Trainmates’ to make over 700 kg banana chips for poor people this Onam
Thrissur: When ‘Trainmates’ community in Thrissur decided to add colour to the Onam celebration of destitute people in the society, they chose a different way for it. As banana chips is an inevitable item of Onam special snacks, the ‘Trainmates’ community decided to make over 700 kg banana chips for the inmates of government orphanages.
‘Trainmates’ comprises loco pilots, gazetted officers, teachers, bank officials, students and housewives from about 50 families. It is a group of co-passengers in train in Thrissur. The banana chips making is progressing in the terrace of ESI Employees Union building in Thiruvambady here.
‘Trainmates’ president K. Chandran said that they bought bananas from the farmers at Thanikkudam. They are making 1 kg packets of banana chips. The community intends to be a helping hand for those who have no one to support. They have also plans to supply Onam kits and new dresses for poor people.
The ‘Trainmates’ community was formed 15 years ago during Onam season in 2004. The 15th anniversary of the community will take place at Poomala Dam auditorium on September 8.
