'Patriotic' thief filled with regret after finding the house he broke into belongs to a soldier
Kochi: A thief was filled with regret upon realizing that the house he broke into for stealing belonged to a soldier. He ended up writing apology on the walls. The incident happened near Thiruvangulam in Thrippunithura.
The thief, before entering the house, had stolen money and documents from different shops in the same locality. He entered the soldier's house hoping to inspect these documents and also to steal some money. In the end, the wall of the house was filled with apologies from the thief.
It was on Tuesday that five shops in Thiruvangulam were robbed. The thief stole more than Rs 10,000 from these shops. After this, he entered the house of Palathingal Isaac Mani. He wanted to inspect the stolen properties and also take something of value from the house. However, he had a change of mind when he spotted a soldier’s cap inside the house.
Filled with regret, he wrote ‘I broke the seventh commandment of the Bible. I did not know that this was a soldier’s house. I realized only when I saw the cap. Kindly forgive me Officer!’
He also wrote that the bag that he stole from the shop must be returned. He bandoned the bag along with the documents at the house. However the money was missing.
Although CCTV was installed in the area, it was not working on the day. Police have started the investigation to trace the thief although he rendered an apology.
