Youth who filed missing person complaint held for murdering friend in Tanur, dumping body in pond
Malappuram: A youth has been arrested in connection with the murder of Beypore native Vaishakh (27) here in Tanur.
Palakkad native Dinoop aka Anoop (30) has been arrested by police for murdering his friend Vaishakh and dumping his body in a pond. Dinoop has been under the observation of police after he was interrogated earlier. Vaishakh’s body was found in a pond near PVS theatre in Tanur on October 2.
Dinoop murdered Vaishakh on September 2 by brutally beating up and suffocating him. Dinoop was provoked after Vaishakh joined the office in which he has been working for 13 years and became popular within a year. Vaisakh also informed the owner of the company about Dinoop’s drinking habit.
After the murder, Dinoop dumped the body in a pond near PVS theatre in Tanur to make it look like Vaishakh had drowned. Dinoop also moved Vaisakh's mobile phone to a different place to destroy the evidence. It was Dinoop who complained to the police that Vaishakh was missing. He even took part in the funeral ceremony.
It was the injury marks on Dinoop's body and the contradiction in his statements that led to his arrest. Dinoop asserted that there was nothing unnatural in Vaishakh’s death and said that the victim drank an excessive amount of alcohol. Dinoop also raised suspicion that Vaishakh could be found in the pond. All these became crucial in the investigation.
The accused was caught by police officers under the leadership of district police chief U Abdul Karim and Tirur DYSP K Suresh Babu.
