Youth vandalised 19 cars after quarrelling with family, say police
Thiruvananthapuram: Abraham, an 18-year-old who vandalised 19 cars at the parking area in Thampanoor railway station, was irritated following a family dispute, it is learnt. Police informed that Abraham has confessed to the crime. It is reported that he engaged in an argument with his family members and left the house on Saturday.
The accused who was intoxicated with drugs reached the Pay and Park zone of the railway station straight from home. Enraged, he took a stone and vandalised 19 cars parked there. Police asserted that the accused had no intention of robbery. So far, nobody has filed a complaint about missing any valuables from the vandalised cars.
Only some items including sunglasses were found missing from some cars. Further details of missing items will be confirmed once the car owners reach the spot.
At the same time, the accused told police that he destroyed the items which he took from the cars.
Police identified Abraham after examining the CCTV visuals and arrested him from his residence on Sunday.
In the statement to police, Abraham revealed that he vandalised the cars due to the frustration from quarrelling with the family. His family also confirmed that Abraham left the house immediately after the quarrel.
Meanwhile, the drug used by the accused will be identified only after the medical examination.
Action will be taken to give compensation to the car owners as per the agreement between the railway and parking area contractors, informed police.
