Youth's suicide: SI transferred
Kochi: Maradu Sub- inspector P.R. Santosh has been transferred over the controversy of a youth committing suicide, due to alleged police high-handedness.
The youth named Subhash, had committed suicide due to the mental agony caused by his arrest and questioning.
Sub-Inspector Santosh has not been given a new posting. Santosh has also been asked to appear at the Ernakulam city Commissionerate
The Maradu police had taken Subhash into custody on Saturday evening.
According to Subhash's friends, Sub- Inspector Santosh, who was on patrol, questioned Subhash who was standing alone in the dark. Subhash, who cannot see properly in the dark, mistook the police for his friends, and hugged Santosh. This angered the SI and he slapped Subhash. The police then took Subhash to the police station and released him on bail after medical examination. However, Subhash committed suicide due to the mental agony.
Subhash's brother has filed a complaint to higher police officials alleging that the police were responsible for the death of Subhash. Locals had conducted a march to the police station carrying Subhash's body.
