Young woman kills 1-yr-old son by throwing him into well in Kozhikode
Chelannur: In a shocking incident, a Tamil Nadu native woman threw her one-year-old son into a well at Kavumpuram in Kozhikode district.
The shocking incident which shook the conscience of the local people of Chelannur happened on Saturday morning and Dhanalakshmi (21), a Tirupur native, was nabbed by the Kakkoor police. Dhanalakshmi threw her son Rishid into the 15-foot deep well situated on the courtyard.
The young woman cooked up her own version of story and went on to convince the local people on how the child fell into the well. The mother said that 2 women in purdah came to her house, made her smell a substance. When she fell unconscious, they robbed her jewels and threw her baby into the well.
One of the men immediately entered the well to save the kid. The assistant station officer from the Narikunni police station C O Varghese-led team reached the spot along with Fireforce personnel and brought out the child. Though the child was rushed to a private hospital and then to government Medical College hospital, the kid’s life could not be saved.
Dhanalakshmi started staying in this house for rent 5 months back with her husband Praveen and her parents-in-law. Dhanalakshmi’s husband Praveen, who is a tile worker, and her in-laws were not present in the house at the time of the incident. The house had a well and a gate too. Though there were adjacent houses, none could see the house from outside. Dhanalakshmi and her son were alone in the house at that time. When the Kakkoor police took Dhanalakshmi into custody and interrogated her, she did not confess to the crime in the beginning but later accepted to have committed it.
The Kakkoor circle inspector-led team reached the spot for evidence collection. Dhanalakshmi will be produced before the court soon.
