Kozhikode: A woman who was severely injured after her husband slit her throat at a lodge here succumbed to the injuries. The deceased was identified as Saleena (43), wife of Meppayur native K V Ashraf.
Saleena died at Kozhikode Medical College where she was undergoing treatment. The incident took place at a lodge in Mavoor Road on February 13 night.
Saleena was working at a ladies hostel in Eranhipalam. Her husband Ashraf called her and asked her to come to a lodge. Later, he slit Saleena’s throat when she was asleep. When the lodge staff rushed after hearing the noise, Ashraf told them that Saleena herself slit her throat.
Meanwhile, Saleena ran out and hired an auto rickshaw to go to medical college. After reaching the hospital, Saleena informed the doctors about the incident by writing in a paper. With this, Kasaba police arrested Ashraf on February 14 and remanded him.
Ashraf has been working as a driver after returning from abroad, the locals said. The accused told police that he tried to murder his wife due to suspicion of cheating. During the incident, the couple's one-year-old daughter was with them.
Saleena and Ashraf got married four years ago. Ashraf had married twice before marrying Saleena. His second marriage took place after the death of his first wife. Later, he tied the knot with Saleena too.
