Woman succumbs to burn injuries; her live-in partner under police surveillance
Anchal (Kollam): A young woman who was undergoing treatment after suffering severe burns has succumbed to the injuries. The deceased has been identified as Edamulackal Thumbikkunil native Athira (28).
A man identified as Shanavas (32) who was living with the woman also suffered burn injuries and is admitted in Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital. Shanavas is currently under police surveillance on the basis of the dying declaration of Athira.
According to the police,Athira and Shanavas engaged in a verbal spat on Tuesday by 7 pm. With this, Shanavas doused Athira with kerosene and set on fire. Shanavas also suffered serious injuries during the attempt.
When the locals came rushing to the scene after hearing cries, they found Athira running out of the house with fire spreading all over her body. Anchal police admitted both of them to hospital with the help of locals.
Athira and Shanavas were living together for two years. They have a 6-month-old baby too. Both of them had married earlier and have two children each in their respective marriages.
