Woman sentenced to life term imprisonment for murdering toddler son
Thodupuzha: A woman has been sentenced to life term imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 15,000 for strangling her one and half year old son to death. Kottayam native Rolimol (39)was sentenced to life term imprisonment by Thodupuzha 4th additional sessions court judge, PV Aneesh Kumar. The victim was Rolimol’s youngest son. Her eldest son is 7 years old.
The murder took place inside a tea estate ‘layam’ in Peerumedu on 18 April, 2018. The accused reached the estate along with her family as part of the construction of her uncle’s house.
She was planning to commit suicide along her eldest autistic son, after murdering her youngest. The toddler fell down from the bed when she tried to suffocate him using her fingers. She immediately called her neighbors as she got scared and told them that he fell down from the bed.
The child died even though he was taken to a private hospital in Kattappana. The doctor who examined the child saw the suspicious marks on his neck and informed the police.
The accused was arrested by Upputhura SI, Shibukumar. Meanwhile, the accused tried to kill herself by jumping into a well. The court did not take into account the argument of the defense attorney that the accused was mentally unstable.
