Woman, lover arrested for abandoning their newborn in front of church in Adoor
Adoor: In connection with the case where a newborn baby was abandoned in front of Aruthimoodu church, the baby’s mother and her lover were arrested.
The Adoor police arrested the child’s mother Lija (33) and A Ajay (32) both residents of Maroor. On June 30, faithfuls who came to light candles at the chapel in front of the church saw the one-day-old baby covered in a cloth.
As the CCTV camera in front of the church was not functioning, police collected footage from 45 cameras facing the road between Adoor and Pathanapuram. Investigations based on vehicles helped police zoom in on the autorickshaw driven by Ajay. He was taken into custody and questioned at the police station before being arrested. Later, Lija was also arrested.
The duo, who have been separated from their married partners, were in a relationship for a long time. After Lija became pregnant, she remained at home without coming out. After Lija gave birth to the baby inside their house, the two abandoned the child in front of the church.
The baby is now under the care of the Child Protection Committee.
Circle Inspector U. Biju, Sub Inspector Anoop, senior women Civil Police Officer (CPO) Rashida Beegum and CPOs Anurag, Muraleedharan, Sarath and Suresh arrested the two.
