Woman arrested for helping accused steal gold ornaments from own house
Thiruvananthapuram: A woman was arrested by police in connection with the theft of gold ornaments from her own house. Maruthamala native Kavitha (34) has been arrested for helping an accused rob the ornaments.
25 sovereign of gold which was kept inside a secret drawer in the bedroom was stolen from the house.
Police stated that the incident happened last Saturday when Kavitha and her husband visited a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, Rajesh, was a friend of Kavitha and even borrowed money from her several times. He demanded Rs 10 lakh from her to buy a new vehicle and also threatened her to reveal details about their relationship to her husband.
Following this, Kavitha told Rajesh about the gold kept in her place. She left the back door of the house open for Rajesh to enter before leaving for the hospital on Saturday. It was after this that Rajesh stole the jewellery from the house.
He even scattered chilli and coriander powder around the house to destroy evidence.
Rajesh was arrested on Wednesday. Kavitha was arrested on Friday by the police team led by CI S Sreejith, SI SL Sudheesh, CPOs Sainikumari and Gayathri.
