Woman abducted from Alappuzha found in Palakkad; police suspect involvement of gold smuggling racket
Alappuzha: A woman who was abducted from Mannar in Alappuzha was found in Palakkad on Monday, reported police. Korattikkad native Bindhu who returned from Gulf four days back was abducted by a gang in the wee hours of Monday. It is learned that the gang abandoned her on Palakkad-Vadakkencherry road.
Vadakkencherry police took the woman from the spot and set off to Alappuzha. The police have recorded the statement of the woman. It is learned that police have got a clue about the gang who abducted the woman. Efforts are on to nab the accused by tracing their mobile tower location.
The woman who is a native of Korattikkad was abducted by some unidentified people. In the complaint to the police, Bindu’s family alleged that a 15-member gang intruded on their house with machete and other weapons and kidnapped Bindhu. The family also alleged that Koduvally natives are behind the crime.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that a gold smuggling racket is involved in the abduction. Police assumed that the woman has links with the racket. But police did not disclose further details.
During the investigation, police found that Bindhu who works as an accountant in a supermarket in Qatar used to visit Kerala frequently. Her travel history recorded in the passport justifies this fact.
The woman who reached Kerala in January returned to Dubai. Later, she returned to Kerala on February 19, said police. On the basis of this, police suspect that she was a carrier of gold smuggling.
