Wayanad native shot after mistaking him for wild boar; 2 in custody
Kalpetta: Kambalakkad police took two men into custody in connection with the case of a Wayanad native who died of bullet injury. The incident happened on November 29 when Jayan from Kottathara region was shot when he along with three others went to scare away wild boars in the paddy field. While Jayan died from the injury, his relative Sharun, who was also part of the gang, remains in critical condition at the hospital.
According to the accused, they shot the person thinking it was a wild boar. The accused was identified as Chandran and Lineesh and are under police custody. They are from Poolakkoli colony. The duo in a statement said that they were hunting wild boars and had accidently shot two individuals.
Meanwhile, one of the members of the 4-member gang said the bullet injury occured when the injured person stood up and returned to the crouching position, after noticing a movement on the field.
Wild animals keep destroying crops in the paddy field regularly. Hence, many people in the region guard their farm lands.
