Wandoor native arrested for smuggling gold in the name of flood relief activities
Kochi: Air customs intelligence officials nabbed a man who smuggled one kilogram gold through Nedumbassery airport which he bought using the money collected from Gulf for flood relief activities in Kerala.
The arrested has been identified as a Malappuram Wandoor native. He was arrested on Saturday morning after he landed at the airport in a flight from Jeddah. Gold was hidden inside the packets of tea dust.
In the name of flood relief activities, he had collected an amount of Rs 25 lakhs from expat Keralites. He bought gold using this money. Customs officials are interrogating him.
