Vismaya murder: WhatsApp messages mentioning harassment from husband proved a crucial evidence
Kollam: The WhatsApp messages sent by Vismaya to her friends and relatives mentioning the harassment meted out from her husband will be crucial evidence in the case. The police have recovered several chats from several people that could strengthen the case. The messages sent by Vismaya to Kiran’s sister Keerthi pleading for help was also retrieved by the authorities. Evidence has also been presented that she sought the help of a psychologist from Ernakulam to relieve her stress. Further, she had also complained to the psychologist about dowry-related harassment she faced from her husband.
The charge sheet stated that the accused continued to torture Vismaya even though she told her husband that she was on the verge of suicide unable to bear the torture. Kiran has been accused of demanding and receiving dowry.
The charge sheet pointed out that the accused, a government official, married Vismaya in the hope of getting more dowry and was mentally and physically abusing her stressed as he didn’t receive the dowry as expected. The reason that surfaced was Kiran was unhappy with the brand new car, along with 1.20 acre of land and 100 sovereigns of gold, he was given as dowry after their marriage last year. According to the charge sheet, the accused had publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the dowry on August 29, 2020, in front of the neighbours and on January 2, 2021, in front of the neighbours at Vismaya's house.
It was on June 21 that Vismaya was found hanging at her husband Kiran Kumar's home in Kollam district. As dowry related issues led to her death, police charged case against Kiran and arrested him.
