Malappuram: In a yet another visa fraud case in the state, a twenty-three-year-old youth is on run after extorting money worth lakhs from around 50 people promising overseas jobs. The victims lodged a complaint against Sarachandran, a native of Vallikunnam village in Alappuzha.
Three months ago, the suspect had circulated a whatsapp message that he would grant employment visas for job seekers to Singapore and Abu Dhabi. When the job seekers called him, Sarachandran took Rs 1,70,000 from each. In return, the people were provided tickets. Later when they reached Ernakulam, they were too late to realise that those were fake ones.
When they called Sarachandran, he promised to resolve the matter soon enough. The victims even resided at hotels in Ernakulam l for a month without returning to their home. Upon learning the fraudulent motive, some of them went to Sarahandran’s house and lashed out against his family members. But when they found out that only his mother and sister were residing in the house, they refrained from visiting his house yet again.
Sharachandran phoned some of the people who had caused a commotion in front of his house and promised them to return their money. But not a single person has been able to recover his money yet. Since then he has been absconding. The victims hailing from Thrissur, Alappuzha and Palakkad have fallen prey to the online scam.
Earlier, the suspect had promised a job in oil rig in Singapore to a Tirur native. When the promised job didnt materialise he was goven a cheque for the money . But when the cheque was deposited in a Bank it was bounced . Hence, he lodged a complaint with the Tirur police
