Venmony Couple Murder: Police nab the suspects within 13 hours
Alappuzha:"The police were able to apprehend the suspects before they could flee the country" Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar has said in a press conference.
A Bangladeshi passport, 45 sovereigns of jewellery and 17,000 rupees in cash have been recovered from the accused Labilu and Juwel, who allegedly stole from the couple’s house.Their language was a mixture of Bengali and Hindi.
AP Cherian (76) and his wife Lilly Cherian (72) of Anjilimoottil Vadakkethil , Venmony, were found murdered at their home on November 12 at 6 am. Around 7.30 pm the accused were arrested by the police.
The police could trace them using their photographs given by their friends. The police issued the lookout notice of these Bangladeshi nationalists to all the police station in India through their website and issued a rail alert.
A five-member police team led by Mannar CI went to Calcutta after finding that the culprits were on an escape route to Bangladesh via Kolkata. Meanwhile, , the suspects were seen on CCTV as they were waiting to board the Coromandel Express to Calcutta at Chennai station. Chennai central inspector informed the police that they had examined the footage and identified the suspects.They were arrested when they reached Vishakhapatnam at 9.30 pm.
It is noteworthy that District police team could bring Tamil Nadu Police, Andhra Police, RPF and Tamil Nadu railway together in action to nab the suspects. District police chief KM Tomi and other officials were present at the press conference.
Owners have to report to the police if any labourers from other states or abroad reside in their house. DIG. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar asserted that legal action would be taken against those owners who fail to report to the police. He said that it was necessary to carry out an investigation on foreign workers in the wake of the Venmony couple murder.
