Uthra murder: Women’s Commission directs police to register case against Suraj’s family
Kollam: In the controversial Uthra murder case, the Kerala State Women’s Commission has directed the police to register a case against family members of Uthra’s husband Suraj, the key accused in the case, under dowry prohibition act and domestic violence act.
The commission observed that Uthra’s murder was a rare domestic abuse killing. Pathanamthitta SP was directed to book cases against Suraj’s parents and sister. The commission also asked the police to submit a report within 7 days.
The Women’s Commission observed Uthra’s murder as a rarest of the rare domestic abuse killing.
She was murdered to grab her wealth. In this background, the State Women’s Commission member Shahida Kamal directed the district police chief to register a case against Suraj’s father Surendran, mother Renuka and sister Surya.
In the letter to the district police chief, the Women’s Commission asked to register a case under the domestic violence act and dowry prohibition act and submit the report within a week. Apart from this, the progress in the investigation should be informed to the commission.
