Uthra murder: Suraj's mother, sister taken in police custody
Kollam: In connection with the Uthra murder case, the Crime Branch took into custody key accused Suraj's mother Renuka and his sister Surya. Both were taken into custody on Tuesday by noon. They are being interrogated in detail. Meanwhile, the arrest of Suraj's father Surendran Panicker was recorded. He has been charged with cases for destruction of evidence and domestic violence. The probe team is questioning Suraj and his father together.
The Crime Branch team arrested Surendran Panicker on Monday night. Uthra's 38 sovereigns of gold was found buried at two places in their house compound. Suraj confessed to the police that it was not a rat snake that was spotted in their house on February 29 and a viper bit Uthra on March 2. When the Crime Branch came to their house at Parakkode for evidence collection, they took Suraj's father with them.
Earlier, Suraj had said during the interrogation that Uthra's gold was taken from locker and was given to Surendran Panicker's sister. The police found this to be false and questioned both Suraj and father together. With this, Surendran admitted that the gold was buried at house compound.
The police arrived at their house at night and searched with the help of Suraj's parents. But they could not find the gold from the spots pointed by them. When the interrogation continued, Surendran showed them the actual place where the gold was buried. The ornaments were buried near a fish pond and close to the wall of the house. The experts confirmed that it was Uthra's gold taken from bank locker in Adoor on March 2.
