Uthra murder: Evidence collection at Suraj's house; father's vehicle taken into custody
Pathanamthitta: In connection with the murder of Anchal native Uthra, her husband and key accused Suraj was taken to the house in Adoor for evidence collection. The sacks in which Suraj kept the snakes were found during the evidence collection held on Saturday. Also the vehicle owned by Surendran Panicker, Suraj's father, was taken into custody.
The investigation team took into custody the pickup van, which Surendran bought using the financial help provided by Uthra's family. The probe team hinted that the vehicle will be an evidence in the case. They also collected evidence from the jewellery shop in Adoor where Uthra's gold ornaments were sold.
Earlier, Suraj's mother Renuka and sister Surya were interrogated for about 10 hours in connection with the case. The team headed by Rural SP Harishankar and DySP Ashokan questioned them to find out their role in the conspiracy. All four of the family members were made to sit together during interrogation, but they were firm on their stand. Later, Surendran was remanded as his custody period ended.
Renuka handed over to the police a gold chain which Uthra's family gifted to Suraj during the wedding, as asked by the police. They said that the 90 sovereigns of gold given to Uthra included this chain also. Suraj gave the chain to Renuka before he was arrested.
As the police did not get any proper evidence and statements to prove their involvement in the case, Renuka and Surya were released after quizzing. The probe team plans to question them again after completing some important steps in the case.
