Use of synthetic drugs common in film industry, reports excise
Thiruvananthapuram: Hallucinogenic drugs like LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) which easily gets evaporated in sunlight are widely used among the artists and other crew members in the film industry, reports excise department. The officials observed that LSD, which is in the form of a stamp kept under the tongue to get intoxicated, is in huge demand.
LSD will evaporate in room temperature. Hence, it is difficult to find evidence against the use of such drugs. According to the excise department, they have limitations to raid shooting locations of those people as they have great influence in society.
Sources revealed that a group of people who works as technicians and assistants are the drug dealers in the industry. The department officials stated that they need help from the film industry to nab these dealers.
Meanwhile, excise intelligence was alerted on the manufacturing of MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) pills at some centres in Bengaluru. Nigerian citizens are operating such centres. This drug can be made from the chemicals which are available in the market. Some chemicals are imported for its production.
Ernakulam tops in drug abuse
The highest number of narcotic cases are registered in Ernakulam district. 726 cases are registered and 783 people were arrested here from January to September 2019. Drugs like hashish, heroin, brown sugar, MDMA, LSD, cocaine and narcotic ampoules were seized from here.
