UAPA case: Conspiracy to trap me; no connection with Alan, Thaha, says Abhilash
Kozhikode: Abhilash who was arrested by NIA over suspected Maoist links has dismissed the reports saying he was instrumental in the recruitment of Alan Suhaib and Thaha Fazal to the Maoist group.
Abhilash alleged that planned attempts are being made to trap him in the Pantheerankavu Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case.
Abhilash noted that he came to know about Alan and Thaha when they were arrested in the UAPA case. Speaking to mathrubhumi.com, Abhilash said that being a journalist, he visited Alan and Thaha at the jail as a part of news reporting. Following the interrogation, NIA released Abhilash on Saturday night. He was asked to report before NIA court for further interrogation on Monday.
“In the press release, NIA claims that I and Vijith recruited Alan and Thaha to the Maoist group. But I met Vijith for the last time in 2016 as part of the works related to a cultural magazine ‘Padantharam’. After that, we did not have any contact. NIA interrogated me suspecting that I have links with Usman, the accused in the UAPA case who is absconding. If they are sure that I am a Maoist, why did they release me from custody,” asked Abhilash.
Abhilash also raised suspicion on his laptop and other items being seized. He expressed concerns that evidence could be fabricated against him.
“NIA informed that the raided items will be returned after forensic examination. I am really worried about it,’ said Abhilash.
The NIA team arrested Wayanad native Vijith Vijayan, Eldho Wilson and Kannur native Abhilash on May 1 following a search operation at their houses.
In the press release issued following the arrest, NIA pointed out that Vijith and Abhilash had recruited Alan and Thaha to the Maoist group and they have close links with the banned outfit.
8 mobile phones, 7 sim cards, 2 memory cards, one laptop, 7 pen drives, a voice recorder and 9 books and pamphlets of CPI Maoist group were seized from their houses.
NIA submitted the chargesheet in the UAPA case against Alan, Thaha and Usman on April 27. Alan Suhaib is named as the first accused in the case. Thaha Fazal and CP Usman are named as second and third accused respectively.
