Chennai: Two railway staff were arrested for trying to assault a Malayali girl at a suburban railway station in Chennai. The culprits were identified as Lukas and Lokesh. Both are lift operating staff at the station. Another culprit in the incident, a booking clerk, escaped.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at Taramani station on the Beach-Velachery route. The victim was a Kozhikode native college student. According to police, the girl and her male friend were sitting at the railway station and the trio approached them in the name of moral policing. Introducing themselves as railway staff, the men took the girl and boy to the ticket counter and demanded money threatening to inform their parents.
As the girl firmly denied money, the culprits made her get into the elevator and tried to molest her. As she screamed, other passengers reached the spot and rescued them.
Following a complaint filed by the girl, Thiruvanmiyur railway police arrested two of them. Search for the third culprit is progressing, said police. The duo who were arrested were remanded in police custody.
