Three held for murder of IUML activist in Tanur
Tirur: Police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of IUML activist Isahak at Anjudi in Tanur. The three were identified as Mufeez (first accused), Masood and Twaha.
Former Anjudi Youth League former vice president Isahak alias Rafeeq (35) was hacked to death around 8 pm on Thursday
Isahak was attacked on his way to the mosque. There was a power outage in the region. Locals rushed to the spot when they heard his scream. Both of his limbs were badly severed. He was admitted to the Tirur taluk hospital but succumbed to injuries.
UDF observed a hartal in protest against the gruesome murder on Friday from 6 am to 6 pm in coastal areas of Tirur, Tirurangadi, Ponnani, Tavanur, Vallikunnu and Tanur constituencies.
Anjudi has witnessed several CPM-League conflicts in the past. Earlier, a CPM activist was hacked to death in the village. Sources say that the murder was committed against this backdrop.
On the eve of last Lok Sabha elections, Isahak’s house was attacked. The Muslim League had alleged that CPM was behind the attack. CPM district committee had issued a statement that their party had no role behind the killing and condemned the incident.
Isahak is the son of late Saithalavi and Kunjimol. He is survived by his wife Arifa and brothers Noufal, Sairabi and Sumayya.
