Thieves find nothing in doctor's house; irated, they hack a teddy bear and find...
Thrissur: `We have broken into the house. Kindly cooperate. It is better for both of us’. Four masked men who entered the house of Dr Christo situated on the Mullakkara-Palakkad Highway in Thrissur woke up the residents and said this gently. Now what follows before and after looks like a reel life story that is unbelievable.
The police version: A group of masked men entered a doctor’s house by breaking the not-so-strong door of the clinic which is connected to the house. One of the robbers took a sickle that was lying there and all headed inside. A glass door connected the house to the clinic and the thieves broke this to enter the house. The doctor’s mother and son were sleeping downstairs.
The robbers woke up the mother and said: “We have entered the house to rob. Do not make any noise”. They woke up the boy too who was sleeping there and took him upstairs to the bedroom where the doctor and his wife were sleeping. One of the robber was guarding the mother. They made the boy knock on the bedroom door. When the doctor opened the door of his bedroom what awaited him was the masked men standing right in front. The three robbers left the boy with his parents and told them, “We have entered the house to rob. Kindly cooperate. It is better for both of us.”
When the robbers wanted to know where the gold and cash were kept, the doctor’s wife said nothing is present in the house. One of the robbers said they had entered the house only knowing that gold and cash is kept here and started searching the house meticulously. When they could not find anything anywhere, they spotted a teddy bear placed over the almirah. As the robbers were dejected in not finding anything, one of them hacked the doll and from inside gold jewellery and cash notes tumbled down.
The robbers grabbed everything and removed the hard disk of the CCTV. They later said “I need this. I’m taking it”.
Dr Christo’s house is situated opposite the Mullakkara Don Bosco school coming under the Mannuthy police station limits. When all this was happening inside Dr Christo’s house, another drama was being unfolded outside.
A car was parked on the side of the Highway adjacent to the doctor’s house. The police patrol who were on duty in the night felt something suspicious and approached the car. When enquired, the inmates of the car said they were on a long drive and on feeling tired, they pulled over the car to take rest. On inspecting the vehicle documents, the police could not find anything suspicious.
The police patrol, however, noted down the car number KA 51M-1093. Now only the number of the car is the only clue that the police have in their hand. When coming to know about the theft, the sniffer dog ran till the vehicle that was parked on the roadside and stopped. Police said the car had a Karnataka registration number and the inmates were from Tamil Nadu. But the doctor said that the robbers had spoken to them in English.
30 sovereigns of gold and Rs 80,000 was robbed from the house.
Probe outside Kerala
Thrissur: Police are of the opinion that professional gang was involved in the robbery at Dr Christo’s house at Mullakkara. Police suspect that they are from Tamil Nadu but could not confirm it as the robbers took away the hard disk of the CCTV and were also masked. The robbers had surveyed the house continuously and the police assume that the robbers would have reached the clinic atleast twice to know about the house. That was how they came to know about the passage to the house from the clinic. The car parked outside was registered in Bengaluru and the police have got clues that the robbers have connections in Madurai. The police team have left to the place. One batch of police team left for Bengaluru. Mannuthy police have registered a case.
The robbers who had entered the house at 3 in the early morning took only 30 minutes to complete the work. The robbers entered the house climbing the compound wall and did not break open the lock of the gate as they felt that police should not suspect them under any circumstances.
