Thief rings doorbell, throws sand at woman's face, flees with 3 sovereign gold
Guruvayur: In a daring robbery, a thief entered the house by ringing the doorbell, threw sand at the housewife’s face and then made good his escape with 3-sovereign chain. The housewife, who was alone in the house, was also attacked and in the melee, the thief could grab only a portion of the gold chain.
Jothy (44), wife of Sreekumar from Kannur, bore the brunt of the attack. The incident happened on Tuesday morning and the thief arrived on a scooter wearing a helmet. Jothy was alone in the house and the front door was ajar. On hearing the doorbell, she immediately rushed to open the door.
The thief enquired if her husband was there and barged in. As his identity could not be established because of his helmet, Jothy tried to ask who he was but before that the thief threw sand over her face. When the thief grabbed her chain, Jothy caught his hand and kicked him with her legs.
In the tussle, Jothy fell down and the thief fled with whatever he could get in his hands. Though Jothy tried to scream and catch the attention of the neighbours, none reached the place soon after.
On coming to know about the news, Jothy’s husband Sreekumar along with councillor T K Vinodkumar lodged a complaint with the police. Investigation has begun and the statement of Jothy was recorded.
Jothy sustained injuries on her hand and sought treatment at the taluq hospital. She was advised Xray to ascertain any damage to her bones.
