Thief enters shop to steal mobile phone; gets nabbed after making call to shop owner
Kalikavu (Malappuram): In a bizarre incident, a thief who stole mobile phone from a shop, got caught when he made a phone call to alert the shop owner that his shop has been robbed.
The incident took place on Monday night. The thief who wanted some money urgently, decided to rob the shop and take away a mobile phone. He opened the shop skilfully using an iron rod and stole the phone. His plan was to steal one mobile gadget to meet his need and then escape. But he couldn’t lock back the door of the shop while leaving.
Soon an idea flashed through his mind. He called the shop owner in the number mentioned in front of the shop, like a pedestrian who accidently found the shop kept open. Over phone, thief alerted the owner that his shop was found opened at night.
Within no time, shop owner reached the spot. The man who alerted him and an another man were at the spot. Owner who analysed the shop found that only a mobile phone worth Rs 12,000 was missing. Owner checked the CCTV visuals to find the thief. To his astonishment, he identified the thief as the same man who alerted him of the incident.
Tactfully, owner took the two to police station to report the theft. The real story behind the theft unfolded at the police station. Man who was found accompanying the thief was actually brought to take up of responsibility of the theft, in case they got caught. The contract was made for an amount of Rs 2000. Thief believed that he could come clean with this plan.
Thief explained to police that he steals one mobile phone from the shop when he is financially tight. He had stolen two mobile phones from the same shop before. During the earlier attempts, he easily escaped after locking the door. But, this time, his destiny was different.
Shop owner withdrew complaint as the thief agreed to pay the whole amount of three mobile phones he has stolen.
