Swindling money from wife's family friend ends in murder; charge sheet submitted in Suchithra case
Kottiyam (Kollam): The special investigation team submitted the charge sheet in the murder of Kollam Mukhathala native Suchithra Pillai, a beauty parlour trainer.
Suchithra went missing from Kottiayam and later was found murdered and buried near a friend's house in Manali in Palakkad. Her friend and music teacher Prasanth hailing from Changaroth in Kozhikode is the key accused in the case.
The charge sheet was submitted before Kollam Judicial Magistrate Court (II) judge Arun Kumar by ACP B. Gopakumar, Cyber Cell SI V. Anil Kumar and Crime Branch SI Nizam.
The investigation started after Suchithra's mother Vijayalakshmi filed a complaint with Kottiyam police. Vijayalakshmi said that Suchithra left her house on March 17 and was missing since March 20. As there was no progress in the probe, Vijayalakshmi approached the High Court and the case was handed over to the district Crime Branch team.
Prasanth developed a friendship with Suchithra, who was a family friend of his wife. They became close friends through social media and Prasanth managed to get Rs 2.75 lakh from Suchithra. According to the charge sheet, an argument over this amount led to the murder.
Charges of kidnapping, stealing ornaments, showing disrespect to the dead body and destruction of evidence were registered against Prasanth.
Suchithra's body was buried in an empty ground near the accused's house in Palakkad 39 days after the murder. The police nabbed Prasanth through the investigation based on mobile phones and social media accounts.
