Swapna is highly influential, does not deserve special privileges: Court
Kochi: The special court stated that it is convinced that Swapna Suresh, the accused in the gold smuggling case, is a highly influential woman. Her influence on those in power is apparent and that it is obvious from the hearing till date, the court observed. The Special Court for Economic Offences stated this in the verdict rejecting the bail plea filed by Swapna Suresh.
Even after leaving the job at the UAE consulate, Swapna had connections with the higher officials there. She managed to get a job in a government project. So, she doesn't deserve any special privileges as a woman, the court said.
The court made the remarks in the last portion of the 9-page verdict. It also observed that granting bail to the accused will adversely affect the investigation and that the accused will try to destroy the evidence.
The bail plea of Swapna Suresh and Saithalavi, accused in the gold smuggling case, were rejected by the Special Court for Economic Offences on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the hearing on the bail plea of another accused Samju was postponed to August 17. Earlier, Swapna Suresh was denied bail in the case charged by the NIA also.
