Suspicion over tribal girl's suicide in Adimali; family says she had no phone
Adimali (Idukki): The family of a 17-year-old tribal girl, who was found to have committed suicide, raised suspicion over the incident. The deceased girl's mother told Mathrubhumi News that they have not bought the girl a mobile phone and they do not know who gave her the phone.
The family found the phone in her possession the other day. The girl used to talk on the phone frequently and the mother had asked her about the same. The family demanded a detailed probe into the incident.
The 17-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree near her house at Kulamamkuzhi colony in Valara in Adimali on Saturday. She had left the house with a 21-year-old girl, who is her relative and neighbour, last Thursday.
Though the relatives talked to them over the phone, they did not reveal where they were. The relatives searched for them in the forest region and on the river banks in vain. They filed a complaint with the Adimali police on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, the girls reached Adimali panchayat president Deepa Rajeev's house by Friday evening. She said that the two girls will be produced at the police station on Saturday morning. The girls returned to their houses on Saturday to change clothes before going to the police station.
But the 17-year-old girl hanged herself from a tree near her house. The other girl tried to hang herself inside the house but the rope snapped. The exhausted 21-year-old is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The police said they are investigating the incident. The probe is progressing focused on the phones used by the girls. The police expect to get important details from the phones.
