Students are turning to sex work for money to buy drugs
Kozhikode: Excise officials reveal that students are getting involved in sex work to earn money for drugs. According to officials, over 100 boys below 18 years in Kozhikode city alone have embraced sex work for drugs.
Children are addicted to drug pills that are costlier than ganja. Prostitution was chosen as an easy means to earn considerable money in short time. The old trend of children involving in theft and ganja sale has become passe.
Students charge Rs 1000 from a customer. Customers are found by themselves. Police also suspect to have agents for this.
Either, the students identify homosexuals from their gathering places or figure out like-minded people by travelling with strangers. In some cases, students themselves become agents for deals. Students also earn money by blackmailing the customers.
Different kind of drugs
The most favoured drug among college students is crystal metal MDMH (Methamphetamine), locally known as ‘kalkandam’. The high of crystal metal lasts for days. This is widely used in DJ parties. Pills prescribed for mental patients are also used for intoxication. Students buy these pills from medical shops using forged prescriptions from doctors.
Efforts made from officials
Excise inspector M K Girish said that such students have been identified and dissuaded from this trend. Awareness classes are being held at schools through anti-drug clubs. This trend was first identified during counselling session with individual student. Initiatives are taken to conduct counselling to more students, said the inspector.
