As LPG gas had filled the house on Monday evening, the police were unable to inspect the house.
The deceased was Parappadam in Thazhathangadi native Sheeba (60). Her husband Saly was grievously injured and is undergoing treatment at the Kottayam Medical College.
The incident had come to light on Monday evening when neighbours, who came to occupy a rented house nearby, sensed the smell of LPG gas from the couple’s house and alerted the police.
When the police team reached the crime scene, they found the couple tied up using electric wires, lying in a pool of blood and the house filled with gas leaked from the cylinder. Valuable items including a car were missing from their home.
The couple was taken to the government medical college hospital here. Police assume that the couple were attacked around 10 am on Monday. CCTV cameras have spotted the couple’s car going out of the house around 10 am on Monday.
The robbers had removed and searched inside the almirah in the house. The leaf of the fan inside the room where the couple were found was broken and hanging down.
The couple suffered severe head injuries in the attack using heavy objects. Their feet were tied using iron cables. Police said that electric current was supplied through the cables to electrocute the couple. There were marks on Sheeba’s body which confirmed that she was electrocuted. The police had retried her body after turning the main switch off.
Moreover, eggs were kept to boil in the kitchen. The police officers had turned off the gas. Sally had been operating a roadside shop at Nagampadam.
