Sheeba murder: Police reject claim of accused being insane; mobile abandoned in Thanneermukkom
Kottayam: Police have found that the accused Bilal who murdered Thazhathangadi native Sheeba abandoned his mobile phone near Thanneermukkom bund. He also stayed in a lodge in Alappuzha on the day of the murder. The police will collect evidence at these two places after taking the accused into custody. At present, Bilal is under remand.
Earlier, the accused told police that he kept the phone inorder to hide the crime. After committing the murder, he threw away the phone in the backwaters near Thanneermukkom bund. Then he escaped by car and stayed in a lodge near DySP office in Alappuzha. The police also spotted the car from there.
Meanwhile, the police rejected claims of the family saying he is mentally abnormal. Bilal behaved just like criminals and he committed the crime intentionally, the police said. This is evident from the acts like opening gas cylinder to destroy evidence and the way he abandoned the car. Also the method of crime was similar to a criminal minded person, the police said.
The owner of the shop where Bilal worked also stated that he did not feel anything unusual about his behaviour. Meanwhile, the police found Sheeba's 23 sovereigns of gold during evidence collection. The police will record the statement of Sheeba's daughter, who is under quarantine at Peroor in Kottayam, after her return from abroad, on Friday.
