Second standard student beaten up in Kottayam: School management to suspend teacher
Kaduthuruthy: A second standard student was severely beaten up at the Mannarappara St Xavier's LP school near Kuruppanthara in Kottayam. The school management will suspend the teacher Mini Joseph in connection with the incident of beating up Pranav Raj, son of Soumya.
SFI and DYFI took out a protest march to the school demanding the teacher’s arrest. A case has been filed with the police by the student’s mother.
There are 21 marks on Pranav’s legs. He was taken to the taluk hospital here for treatment late night by family.
According to Soumya, Pranav was called by the teacher to read a Malayalam chapter after lunch. She beat up Pranav with cane alleging he was not reading properly. When he came home in the evening, his grandmother noted swelling on both his legs. She came to the school with the kid, but by then the teacher had gone home.
They were asked to return by other teachers who ensured to take up the matter on Thursday. Later when Soumya returned home after work, she took the kid to hospital.
When the teacher was questioned she claimed that the child was beaten up for him to be fluent in reading Malayalam.
