Rs 4 lakh robbed from church office after locking priests in their rooms in Kottayam
Changanassery: In a bizarre incident, Rs 4 lakh was stolen from the office of Thrickodithanam St Xavier’s Church after locking up four priests in their rooms. The incident took place on Thursday night.
The incident came to light when the vicar woke up for the qurbana in the next morning. As he found himself locked inside his room, he contacted other three assistant priests and found that they were also locked up inside their own rooms. The rooms of priests were locked from outside when the security person reached the spot after called by the vicar.
In a further search, the office of the parish on the ground floor of priests’ house was found open and the cupboards were found broke. It is assumed that the robber might have entered into the priests’ house through the passage to the priests’ house from church. The intruder might have entered into the office after removing the plywood at the lower end of the glass door of the office.
Two steel almirahs in the office were broken and Rs 4 lakh was stolen from it, said members of the parish committee. A complaint has been filed at the Thrickodithanam police station.
Lockers were found opened and the files, money and cheques were stolen, said parish committee members.
Dog squad and finger print experts collected evidences and Thrickodithanam police started enquiry into the case.
