Kannur: Some unidentified men destroyed two ATMs in Kalliasseri here and looted Rs 20 lakh, said reports. The burglars looted Rs 1,75,500 from India One ATM at Mangadu Bazar on the National Highway and Rs 18 lakh from SBI ATM at Kalliasseri.
The agency which filled the currency in SBI ATM informed that the ATM carried over Rs 18 lakh.
According to reports, the ATMs were broken and looted in the wee hours of Sunday. The burglars opened the ATM chests using gas cutters and robbed it.
On Sunday morning, India One ATM was found vandalised and looted. But nobody noticed robbery at SBI ATM as the shutter was closed.
When the agency which was in charge of filling money in the India One ATM reached the spot, the robbery at SBI ATM also came to light.
Though the burglars tried to ransack a room near the toddy shop at Mangadu, they flee from the spot as the room occupants noticed them.
Kannapuram police reached the spot and recovered a bike which is assumed to be used by the robbers.
It is learned that a three-member-team operated the robbery.
Forensic wing and dog squad from Kannur also reached the ATMs and the room where the burglars intruded.
Police informed that a probe into the SBI ATM robbery will be carried out on Monday.
A police team led by Kannapuram SI Parameswaran strengthened the probe into the robbery.
