Rs 17 lakh robbed in Wayanad; 14-member-quotation gang arrested
Kalpetta: The police have arrested a 14-member-gang in connection with an alleged robbery of Rs 17 lakh in Kalpetta. The arrested gangsters were a quotation team from Thrissur. The team was led by Rahul, a native of Varantharapalli in Thrissur.
Quotation team assaulted a group of young people of Wayanad, who were returning from Mysore after selling gold. They had received information that these youths were travelling along the Wayanad national highway carrying money worth of Rs 3 crore. However, the youths had only Rs 17 lakh with them.
The persons, who bought the gold from them in Mysore, had set the trap for the youths. They passed the information to the quotation team and the youths were attacked at midnight and robbed of the money.
The suspects were apprehended by the Vythiri police. The district police chief said more arrests would be made in connection with this incident. One more member of the gang is yet to be arrested. Police held that search for the absconding suspect is underway.
Police have also seized vehicles used by the suspects to commit the crime. Police claimed that there have been numerous cases of inter and intra-state robbery charges against this gang.
