Karipur: There are complaints that baggages of air passengers are being robbed at Kozhikode airport. The passengers happened to know about the robbery, when they received the baggage after customs check. They revealed through social media that expensive items worth lakhs of rupees were stolen from their bags. Six passengers have lodged a complaint with Air India and Airport Authority.
The Customs Commissionerate and Karipur police started investigation into the incident. The six passengers who arrived in Kozhikode in the Air India Express IX 344 Dubai – Kozhikode flight on Tuesday morning lost about Rs 4 lakh worth items from their baggage. Passport of a Kozhikode native passenger also was lost in a similar way.
The theft occurred in the check-in baggages in the flight. Gold, foreign currencies and branded watches were lost. Most of them came to know about the theft after receiving the baggage from customs hall. The locks of the bags were tampered and the zips damaged. They could find only empty boxes of many items in the bags.
Air India has not yet revealed any details regarding the issue, as investigation is under progress. The police checked the CCTV footage of the airport a few months ago, when frequent incidents of theft in the passenger baggage were reported.
