Probe teams to investigate into Sivasankar's Bengaluru trips with Swapna
Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made it clear that they will interrogate on higher officials including diplomats as the investigation into the gold smuggling case expanded abroad. This was stated in the NIA remand report. Various investigation agencies started probe into the Bengaluru tours made by Sivasankar from the initial phase of the Space Park project.
Swapna Suresh had accompanied Sivasankar in many of these journeys. The probe agencies are investigating about the persons with whom Sivasankar had meeting during these journeys. They are not trying to find out the personal purposes behind the journeys. The officials made it clear there were evidences to prove that they had met with some scientists during the trips to Bengaluru.
However, sources related to the state government told 'Mathrubhumi' that these trips could have been related to the Space Park project and the conclave held in connection with it. Sivasankar is free to make such trips as a CM's principal secretary, they added.
The probe agencies are not fully believing the claims made by the state government. Considering the presence of Swapna in these journeys, details of the same should be checked.
Sivasankar had not informed the government regarding the journeys in advance. However, the government sources said that it was common and that he had informed about this later. They made it clear that the details regarding the meeting with diplomats and scientists should be found out.
The probe team assessed that if the government had not officially permitted to take Swapna with him for the meetings, he violated the code of conduct. Even if the meetings were not directly linked to gold smuggling, it should be ensured that Swapna had not used these contacts for her criminal activities, the senior officials in the probe team told 'Mathrubhumi'.
